Definition of Check in the Dark

What does it mean to "check in the dark" in poker? What is the definition of the term "checking in the dark" in poker?

In poker, to "check in the dark" means to check without looking at your cards.

For instance - let's say that you are playing in a $1/$2 No Limit Hold'em cash game at your local casino.

You are sitting in the BB. The table is playing particularly tight tonight, as there are a number of tourists sitting at the table. Everybody at the table elects to call pre-flop, and eventually the action gets to you.

Instead of looking at your cards, you decide to just check. This is known as "checking in the dark".

You will be the second play to act after the flop has been dealt (the SB will act first) - at this point, it would probably be a good idea to see what you are holding.
