Definition of Running Hot



What does the term "running hot" mean? What is meant by "running hot"? What is the definition of the term "running hot"?

In poker, the term "running hot" means that a player is winning nearly every hand that they are involved in and building up their stack in a rapid fashion.

Definition of Running Hot in PokerExample: "I was nearly eliminated from the tournament early in the day, but then I started running hot and now I have a top ten stack".

The opposite of running hot? Being card dead.

Example #2 of "Running Hot":

"I was sitting in a $1/$2 No Limit Hold'em cash game and suddenly started running very hot. Some guy decided to shove all-in pre-flop holding pocket Tens. I looked down at pocket Nines and decided to make the call. The flop came 9-9-2, giving me Quads. I busted the guy and am now up four buy-ins - I'm definitely running hot right now."
