King with sunglasses next to the PCA logoThe first major poker tournament of the year, the $100k Super High Roller event at the 2011 PCA, got underway about an hour ago at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas.

A total of 36 players entered the event, including a number of "Team Pokerstars Pro" members. 2010 World Series of Poker champion Jonathan Duhamel, Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier were some of the "Team Pokerstars Pro" members who elected to participate in the super high buy-in event.

Viktor "Isildur1" Blom is also participating in this event.

Noticeably absent from this list are any of the members of the "Team Full Tilt" roster.

Tom Dwan was debating making the trip (via his Twitter feed):

"Getting pretty burned out, but still thinking about catching a flight to pca in time for the 100k tourny"

..but doesn't appear to be participating in the event.

Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Erick Lindgren, Gus Hansen and Patrik Antonius are all players that I could see participating in an event such as this, but none of them have been mentioned so far.

Were they instructed not to play, or it is just a coincidence? Who knows.

One thing is for certain - the field of the $100k event will certainly be happy that names such as Dwan and Ivey seemingly elected not to turn up.

Nick Schulman holds the early chip lead in the event after dispatching of Koen Berendsen. Berendsen, who is the only player to have been eliminated so far, lasted less than 30 minutes before hitting the rail.
