The $100,000 Challenge at the 2011 Aussie Millions is set to get underway at 2:15 pm local time on Saturday afternoon.
The $100,000 Challenge is a two-day No Limit Hold'em event that attracts some of the top poker players in the world. Full Tilt Poker is heavily involved with the Aussie Millions, which means that many members of "Team Full Tilt" will be participating in the $100k Challenge. Names such as Patrik Antonius, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Phil Ivey and Howard Lederer are all in Melbourne, Australia for the Aussie Millions right now, and you can expect all four of these players to take part in the $100k Challenge.
Previous winners of the Aussie Millions $100k Challenge include:
2010 - Dan Shak, $1.2 Million AUD
2009 - David Steicke, $1.2 Million AUD
2008 - Howard Lederer, $1.25 Million AUD
2007 - Erick Lindgren, $1.0 Million AUD
In 2006, John Juanda won the winner-take-all "Speed Poker Million Dollar Challenge" for $1 Million AUD. After 2006, the format of the $100k buy-in event changed to its current format.
In total, you can expect roughly 24-25 players to turn out to play in this year's $100k Challenge, based on the numbers from the past couple of years.
The Australian Dollar is almost on par with the US Dollar, meaning that it will cost roughly $99,000 USD to buy into the $100k Challenge this year.
