Nikolay Evdakov at the World Series of Poker 2010Russian poker pro Nikolay Evdakov passed away earlier this week at the age of 47.

The cause of Evdakov's death is still unknown, but he has reportedly been battling some sort of a disease over the past while.

Evdakov’s death was announced by his wife Nataliya on cgm.ru. Nataliya said that his passing had caused "great grief" and that Nikolay’s funeral would be held on Wednesday.

Nikolay made a name for himself in the poker world at the 2008 World Series of Poker, where he cashed in a record 10 events. Evdakov didn’t win any of the 10 events, but he earned the respect of his fellow pros, with some playfully referring to him as a “cockroach” that couldn’t be eliminated.

Evdakov parlayed this record-setting performance into a Full Tilt Poker sponsorship deal - Evdakov’s profile is still listed on the site.

Nikolay Evdakov had total tournament cashes of over $1 million ($1,151,705 to be exact) over the course of his career. His largest cash came at the 2011 World Series of Poker $25k NLHE Heads-Up Championship, where he finished 7th for $138,852.

Our condolences to Nikolay Evdakov’s family and friends.
