Roughly 500 Players Still Standing At End of Day

The King is reading the news - WSOP 2014Day 1a of this year's World Series of Poker main event ended up drawing a total of 771 players, which was down from the 943 players that turned out for Day 1a last year.

Last year's turnout for each of the first day opening flights ended up looking like this:

Day 1a - 943 players
Day 1b - 1,942 players
Day 1c - 3,467 players

This 6,352 entrant turnout ended up creating a total prize pool of $59,708,800.

While Day 1a of this year's event had a smaller turnout compared to last year, tournament organizers are still expecting in excess of 6,000 players when all is said and done, especially with the promise of a guaranteed $10,000,000 payday for the eventual winner.
