According to a press release from the World Poker Tour that was circulated earlier today, the season ending WPT World Championship has now been replaced by an invite-only "Tournament of Champions" event.

The WPT World Championship was, at one time, one of the most prestigious events in all of poker. The Season 5 WPT World Championship, for instance, which was won by Carlos Mortensen for nearly $4 million, attracted a total of 639 entries, which ended up creating a total prize pool of over $15 million. Over the past number of years, however, the numbers have fallen off dramatically, with the most WPT World Championship in April only attracting a total of 239 players (with a smaller buy-in).

According to the World Poker Tour, this season's WPT Tournament of Champions will be taking place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The event, which will have a buy-in of $15,400, will be restricted to Season XIV champions and members of the WPT Champions Club.

This season's WPT Tournament of Champions will run from April 21st to April 23rd, 2016.

In addition to the WPT Tournament of Champions, the World Poker Tour also revealed upcoming events in the Philippines, Canada and Belgium as part of their Season XIV second-half schedule.

The most notable second half stop is likely the L.A. Poker Classic, which will be running from February 27th to March 3rd.
