Bag punching workoutYou can say what you want about Men "The Master" Nguyen (and most of it probably won't be very nice), but you can't deny the fact that he is off to an absolutely blistering start so far in 2008. It's such a fast start that it's almost ridiculous.

So far in 2008 (just a month and a half into the year), Nguyen already has nine cashes. If that wasn't enough, one of those cashes was at the Borgata Winter Open main event for $64k, and one was at the final table of the 2008 World Poker Open for $241k.

And for the icing on the cake, Nguyen has four victories so far in 2008 in WPT preliminary events, with three of those victories coming at the L.A. Poker Classic.

He started out by winning a $500 buy-in, No Limit Hold'em event at the World Poker Open in mid-January for a total haul of $51k.

Then he won his first event at the 2008 L.A. Poker Classic, a $300 buyin Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Event for $15k.

Just five days later, he took down a much larger event when he won a $1500 No Limit Hold'em buyin event for $81k. He overcame a tough final table that included the likes of David "The Dragon" Pham.

And as if that wasn't enough, Nguyen also won the $2500 buy-in Limit Hold'em event. There were only 52 players in the field but it had quite a bit of talent, so Nguyen's 42k victory was still impressive, especially considering that it was his third victory of the tournament.

Nguyen is an extremely unpopular poker player, yet there is no denying that he is setting the early standard in 2008.
