The World Series of Poker. Legends such as Amarillo Slim, Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth Jr. have all won this event. No-names such as Robert Varkonyi, Chris Moneymaker and Greg "Fossilman" Raymer have recently dominated the WSOP, leaving the average person probably thinking that they too could possibly win the gold bracelet.

Not only that, but if you play at the World Series of Poker, there is a good chance that you will be on TV, namely ESPN, watched by millions of people. Also, poker is played by a good number of big-name celebrities, so you may have a chance to play with someone like Ben Affleck or Tobey Maguire. Sound cool? Now how do you qualify?

You always have the option to just directly buy into the event by paying your $10,000 fee. Most pros do this, but most amateurs qualify through some other means. Binions always has qualifying tournaments, where the first place person wins a spot in the World Series of Poker. The new phenomenon however, is qualifying online. This is how Moneymaker and Raymer did it, and this is how you should do it too.

How do you qualify online? Almost every major online poker site out there will have qualifiers for the World Series of Poker; visit a site such as this one to see what kind of qualifiers they offer. Practise and practise some more, and then try and win your way to the 2005 World Series of Poker. You never know, you could be the next Raymer or Moneymaker.
