Mike Matusow Leads Festa Al Lago Main Event (WPT) After Day 1

Day 1 of the WPT Festa Al Lago main event is now in the books, with Mike "The Mouth" Matusow carrying the tournament chip lead into Day 2.

"The Mouth" managed to finish Day 1 with approximately 224k in chips, slightly ahead of Mark Seif (222k) and Jason Somerville (213k).

Phil Laak, Dutch Boyd, David "Chino" Rheem and Jonathan "FieryJustice" Little were some of the other well-known names that managed to finish Day 1 with top 10 chip stacks.

The exact field size and prize pool for the event are still not known as of yet, as registration was extended up until late Thursday afternoon (end of level 8). A number of well-known players, including Phil Hellmuth and Howard Lederer, are expected to start play on Day 2.

In total, 244 players have registered to play in the main event so far, with another bunch of players planning on taking advantage of the extended registration period on Thursday.

Of the 244 players that began play on Day 1, approximately 200 remain.

Some of the notable names who hit the rail on Day 1 included:

Daniel Negreanu, David Benyamine, Michael Mizrachi and Joe Sebok.

Day 2 of the event will pick up on Thursday afternoon local time.
