Can Carlos Mortensen Win His Third World Poker Tour Title?

When people talk about great tournament players, Carlos Mortensen is usually left out of the conversation.

However, "El Matador" has done unbelievably well in major poker tournaments over the past decade. Mortensen has two World Series of Poker bracelets to his name, one of which came in the 2001 WSOP main event. In addition to that, "El Matador" has also managed to win two WPT titles, including the WPT Championship in 2007 for nearly $4 million.

Carlos Mortensen currently has almost $9.3 million in lifetime tournament cashes, and will be looking to significantly improve on this total at the final table of the Hollywood Poker Open on Wednesday.

Mortensen will enter the final table as the chip leader, thanks in large part to an Aces vs Kings confrontation against Jerry Payne that allowed him to double up.

Here are the chip counts heading into tomorrow's final table:

1. Carlos Mortensen, 1,127,000
2. Frank Calo, 1,075,000
3. Mike Mustafa, 990,000
4. Ravi Raghavan, 488,000
5. Chris Bell, 372,000
6. Jerry Payne, 268,000

Only 144 players turned out for this event, meaning that the winner of this event will take home just under $400k ($393,820).

Mortensen has been on fire as of late, finishing in 9th place at the LAPC main event for over $100k. It should be interesting to see if "El Matador" can continue to add to his impressive poker resume on Wednesday evening by winning the Hollywood Poker Open main event.
