Jason Mercier Topples Sam Stein To Take Down $25,000 NAPT Mohegan Sun Bounty Shootout

Jason Mercier managed to outlast Sam Stein to take down the final table of the $25,000 NAPT Mohegan Sun Bounty Shootout earlier tonight, allowing Mercier to walk away with $450,000 cash and a $25,000 Bounty Shootout seat.

Sam Stein had three golden opportunities to win the tournament during heads-up play, and has to be feeling pretty sick about how things turned out.

In the first hand, Stein and Mercier were all-in pre-flop with Stein holding Ac-9h and Mercier holding Ad-8c. Stein had the chip advantage at the time and would have taken down the tournament if his hand had held up. Unfortunately for Stein, the board came As-2h-6d-2d-Kh, which resulted in the two players chopping the pot.

In the second hand, Stein and Mercier were all-in pre-flop once again, with Mercier once again needing to win the hand to stay alive.

Stein was in great shape as he turned up his Ac-Qc to Mercier's Kc-Td.

The flop was a good one for Stein, coming Ah-Jh-2s.

The turn brought the 5c, meaning that Mercier could now only win the hand (and stay alive) by spiking a Queen on the river.

The river - the Queen of spades, giving Mercier his straight.

In the third incredible hand of heads-up play, Mercier and Stein once again got involved in an all-in, pre-flop confrontation. With nearly identical stacks, the winner of the hand would surely become the NAPT Mohegan Sun Bounty Shootout winner.

Mercier turned up pocket Threes, while Stein showed Ad-Jd.

The flop was a great one for Stein, coming Jh-6s-2s.

The turn brought the 4h, giving Mercier some more outs to win the hand - now Mercier could win with either a Three or a Five.

The river was the dagger to the heart of Sam Stein - the Five of Hearts. This gave Mercier a straight and the commanding chip lead.

Stein, left with just 13,000 in chips, was eliminated shortly after that.

Mercier ended up walking away with $450,000, as well as a $25,000 Bounty Shootout seat. Stein, thanks to his amazingly unlucky run at the final table, had to settle for $80,000.

Here is how the final table of the Bounty Shootout finished up, as well as the money won by each final table participant:

1. Jason Mercier ($450,000 + $25,000 Bounty Seat)
2. Sam Stein ($80,000)
3. Faraz Jaka ($80,000)
4. Matt Glantz ($70,000)
5. Shawn Buchanan ($80,000)
6. Luis Vasquez ($70,000)
