65 Events Over Three Weeks

Pokerstars - World Championship of Online Poker - 2012 - LogoThe 2012 WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) officially kicks off this Sunday on Pokerstars.

This year's WCOOP will feature a total of 65 events and a guaranteed prize pool of $30,000,000. Previous WCOOP prize pools have easily surpassed their total guarantees, and this year should be no different.

The first event of the 2012 WCOOP is a $215 NLHE 6-Max tournament which will get underway at 11:00 ET on Sunday afternoon. This event will have a total guarantee of $1,000,000.

A few hours later, Event #2 ($215 NLHE) will get underway. The first cards of this event, which will have a guaranteed prize pool of $1,500,000, will be dealt at 14:30 ET.

The final event of the 2012 WCOOP, which is the $5,200 main event, will get underway at 14:30 ET on Sunday, September 23rd. Pokerstars is guaranteeing $5 million in this event, with the eventual winner taking home a guaranteed $1 million. 1,627 players turned out for last year's WCOOP main event, with the eventual winner walking away with over $1.26 million.

Many American-based players, including the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Joseph Cheong, are currently setting up shop outside of the US so that they can play in the WCOOP.

Here is what Negreanu had to say yesterday before departing for Toronto:

"On my way to Toronto today to get settled in for the #wcoop grind. I plan on taking zero days off and going for the Player of the Series."
