"Pokerstars Championship", "Pokerstars Festival" Events To Begin in 2017Published on August 24th, 2016 4:46 pm EST
In a press release titled "Pokerstars Announces Global Championship and Festival events", Pokerstars revealed that it was doing away with its European Poker Tour, Latin America Poker Tour, etc. brands. In their place? The "PokerStars Championship", which will emcompass a number of 10-11 day poker events across the world, as well as the "Pokerstars Festival", which will include a number of smaller events that will be geared towards more recreational players.
The first "Pokerstars Championship" event will be the tournament formerly known as the PCA (Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure), which will run from January 6th to January 14th of 2017. More stops are already planned for cities such as Barcelona, Macau and Monte Carlo, with more cities to be announced in future months.
The first "Pokerstars Festival" will take place in New Jersey and will run from October 29th to November 6th. Roughly 40 tournaments are expected to be a part of this "Festival", with buy-ins ranging from $100 to $5,000.
A second "Pokerstars Festival" stop has also been planned for London.
As part of this move, Pokerstars announced that they are:
1) Upgrading their PSLive registration system
2) Introducing a new mobile app for Pokerstars Championship events
3) introducing self-serve terminals to streamline the registration process
First and foremost, this move is about branding. Amaya Inc. wants Pokerstars to be mentioned every time that somebody plays one of their live tournaments.
Second, with Pokerstars looking to penetrate new markets across the globe, introducing two global brands - the Pokerstars Championship and the Pokerstars Festival - made a great deal of sense.
The final European Poker Tour event will take place in Prague and will run from December 8th to 19th.
