Definition of Bottom Pair
What does the term "bottom pair" mean? What is meant by the term "bottom pair"?
A "bottom pair" is a pair with the lowest card on the board.
For instance - let's say that you are holding 4d-5d, and the board is reading:
As-9d-Ks-4c
In this case, you would have "bottom pair", as you would have a pair of 4s thanks to the 4 of Diamonds that you are holding in your hand.
Let's take a look at one more example.
You are holding 8d-9d, and the flop comes:
8c-Ks-Jc
Again - you have paired the lowest card on the board, which is the 8 of Clubs. You are behind any pair of Kings, Jacks or higher pocket pairs, plus you could be up against straight and flush draws.
You are holding "bottom pair".
