What does the term "play the hand that you're dealt" mean? What is meant by playing the hand that you are dealt?

In poker, and in life, the term "playing the hand that you've been dealt" refers to when you make the most of your situation, no matter how bad it might be.

In poker and in life - Play the hand that you are dealt.For instance, in the game of poker, you won't be dealt pocket Aces every hand. The skilled players, however, will make the most out of subpar starting hands, mainly by using their skill and experience to outclass their opponents.

For instance, if you are able to read your opponent well, you may be able to bluff them out of a hand where you are only holding something like 2-3.

This applies to the game of life as well.

Even if you aren't brought up in the best circumstances, this doesn't mean that you can't go on to do great things.

For instance - a person that had to work hard to pay their own way through college is "playing the hand that they've been dealt". They didn't have a bunch of money, so they had to work extra hard to make it, though they didn't let their circumstances dictate their outcome.
