Definition of Poker Face
What does the term "poker face" mean as it applies to the game of poker? What is the definition of the term "poker face"?
A "poker face" is a face that betrays zero emotion. When you have your "poker face" on, you are giving your opponents zero information about the hand that you may or may not be holding.
An important part of the game of poker is reading your opponents. If you can successfully read your opponents, you can determine what they might be holding and play accordingly. For instance, you may determine that your opponent always touches the corners of his mouth when he has a big hand. This is a "tell" and lets you know about the strength of your opponent's hand.
Now, it is obviously important that a player give off as few tells as possible. For this reason, it is important to have a "poker face".
A professional poker player will give off zero information when they are involved in a hand. They will maintain an expressionless face, otherwise known as a "poker face".
Amateur players, on the other hand, tend to give off numerous tells when they play.
