2011 World Series of Poker Set To Begin on May 31st

World Series of Poker 2011 - ScheduleThe schedule for the 2011 World Series of Poker has now been officially released to the public.

The first two events of the 2011 World Series of Poker will get underway on Tuesday, May 31st. The Casino Employees No Limit Hold'em event will start at 12 pm on May 31st, while the $25,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em Championship will get underway at 5 pm.

There will be a total of 58 events this year, culminating in the $10,000 main event, which is set to get underway on Thursday, July 7th. The main event will run until July 19th, 2011, when the tournament will then be paused until November. The final table of the main event will take place from November 5-7, with ESPN providing primetime coverage on Tuesday, November 8th, 2011.

Here are the start dates of the various "Championship" events:

May 31st, 2011 - Heads Up No Limit Hold'em Championship ($25,000)
June 3rd, 2011 - Pot Limit Hold'em Championship
June 6th, 2011 - Omaha Hi/Low Split-8 or Better Championship
June 9th, 2011 - 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship
June 12th, 2011 - Seven Card Stud Championship
June 15th, 2011 - Limit Hold'em Championship
June 18th, 2011 - Seven Card Stud Hi/Low Split-8 or Better Championship
June 21st, 2011 - HORSE Championship
June 24th, 2011 - Pot Limit Omaha Championship
June 27th, 2011 - No Limit Hold'em / Six-Handed Championship
July 2nd, 2011 - Poker Player's Championship ($50,000)
July 7th, 2011 - No Limit Hold'em Championship

According to the World Series of Poker press release, there are three new events this year. They are:

-$25,000 No Limit Hold'em Heads-Up Championship
-$2,500 10-Game Mix/Six-Handed
-$5,000 Pot Limit Omaha/Six-Handed

A few other notes:

-the opening weekend of the 2011 World Series of Poker will feature a $1,000 buy-in NLHE event which will include two starting flights

-the "weekend warrior" NLHE events will continue in 2011 with $1,500 and $1,000 NLHE bracelet events taking place each weekend, up to and including the July 4th weekend
