Churchill Downs Purchases Assets of Bluff Media

Churchill Downs logo and Bluff Media logoEarlier today, Churchill Downs Incorporated announced that they are acquiring the assets of Bluff Media.

According to the press release that I have linked to below, Churchill Downs has acquired Bluff Magazine, BluffMagazine.com, ThePokerDB and a number of other assets. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Here is an overview of Churchill Downs (listed as CHDN on the NASDAQ stock exchange):

"Churchill Downs Incorporated, headquartered in Louisville, Ky., owns and operates the world-renowned Churchill Downs Racetrack, home of the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks, as well as racetrack and casino operations and a poker room in Miami Gardens, Fla.; racetrack, casino and video poker operations in New Orleans,. La.; racetrack operations in Arlington Heights, Ill.; and a casino resort in Greenville, Miss. CDI also owns the country's premier account-wagering company, TwinSpires.com, and other advance-deposit wagering providers; the totalizator company, United Tote; and a collection of racing-related telecommunications and data companies."

According to the press release, Churchill Downs "believes that this acquisition potentially provides it with new business avenues to pursue in the event there is a liberalization of state or federal laws with respect to Internet poker in the United States."

Things continue to fall into place.. the lobbyists that Churchill Downs has employed in the past (12 lobbyists were on their payroll in 2011) will likely get started immediately on lobbying for a change to the nation's online gambling laws.
