Partypoker Continues To Go After Pokerstars With Massive New Event

Partypoker is mounting a battle to challenge Pokerstars' supremacy in the online poker world, and that is a very good thing for players.

Earlier this week, Partypoker revealed that the second edition of the Partypoker MILLIONS online event, which will be running from December 1-4 of 2018, will have a total guaranteed prize pool of $20 million.

This represents a quadrupling of the guaranteed prize pool of the inaugural event, which ended up attracting 1,027 entries for a total prize pool of $5.1 million. The buy-in for the event will remain the same at $5,300.

Partypoker will be running a MILLIONS Online Leaderboard, starting on Monday, February 5th, that will see the top 10 players on the leaderboard every week win a seat to the tournament. Partypoker notes that players can win multiple seats to the event, but that any additional seats will be paid out in tournament dollars ($5,300).

There will also be a mid and low leaderboard where players will be able to win tickets to $22, $109 and $530 satellites.

In addition, Partypoker has also said that they will be awarding 10 Millions Online seats to the top 10 finishers of their live "MILLIONS" events, starting with the MILLIONS Germany that starts on February 10th.

After years of floundering in an ocean of competition, Partypoker has made numerous positive strides in 2017. This includes but is not limited to: establishing a simple rakeback system, eliminating a number of unpopular fees and signing a stable of popular pros to their team.

Partypoker has implemented a number of player-friendly changes in an effort to win over some of Pokerstars' unhappy customers. Pokerstars remains the giant of the industry, though they have certainly given their competition an opening over the past couple of years as they strive to extract as much money from the poker playing public as possible.

Healthy competition is good for players and this has resulted in events such as the $20 million guaranteed MILLIONS Online event in 2018, which will surely attract many of the world's top players.
