According to a press release, Pokerstars is the first site to offer a shared player pool under license in France and Spain. This is the direct result of a July 2017 agreement between France, Spain, Italy and Portugal, which should eventually result in all four countries sharing player pools on licensed sites.

Portugal is expected to join the shared pool later this year, while "regulators in Italy have yet to confirm details of the country's involvement".

Shared player pools are key to the continued long-term health of online poker. Shared player pools result in bigger tournaments with larger pools, better cash game selection and larger site promotions. All of these things help to bring in new players, which is key to the long-term survival of sites like Pokerstars.

To mark the launch of the shared Italian/French player pool, Pokerstars will be hosting a new €5 million guaranteed tournament series called the France Espania Hold'em, or FRESH for short.

This tournament series will run from January 28th - February 11th, 2018 and reportedly include a total of 50 events, including a €250 buy-in main event with a guarantee of €1 million.

Shares of Stars Group Inc. closed the day at $24.95 on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

Shares of the company have been on a tear as of late, rallying over 50% from early September.
