Motor City Casino - Detroit - Daylight photo taken from the outside. The largest bad beat jackpot in the history of US casinos hit earlier this week.

Given the size of the jackpot, you'd probably expect that the game was being played in a Las Vegas area casino. That wasn't the case - instead, the "bad beat jackpot" was hit at the Motor City Casino in Detroit, Michigan.

It's lucky enough to be sitting at the table when a "bad beat jackpot" hits. It's even luckier when there are only six players seated at a 10-seat table, which is what happened at the Motor City Casino on January 16th.

According to the terms of the "bad beat jackpot" promotion at the Motor City Casino, the jackpot will only be hit if one person's quads (using both of their hole cards) loses to another person's quads (using both of their hole cards).

On January 16th, 2018, the jackpot stood at $1,068,590.80.

In the fateful hand, "Scott" of Oxford, MI was dealt pocket 3s and made Quad 3s. "Kenneth", on the other hand, was dealt pocket Queens and made four Queens. The bad beat jackpot was hit and the money was divvied up like this:

"Scott" (loser of the hand), $427,452.52

"Kenneth", $213,712.76

Other four players at the table, $106,856.28

In August of 2017, Elphege Delarosbil won $460,149 after the bad beat jackpot was hit at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In that hand, Delarosbil's quad Jacks lost to the straight flush of Shane Galle.

In total, the Playground Poker Club ended up paying out a total of $1.2 million after the Bad Beat Jackpot was hit.

It's interesting to note that this hand wouldn't have qualified for the Bad Beat Jackpot at the Motor City Casino, as they only pay out if Quads lose to Quads.
