GG WSOP Online Main Event Receives Backlash From Poker World

The online tournament is structured differently than the traditional one. When the schedule for the GG WSOP Online series was announced, the size of the main event guarantee caught the attention of many.

The $25 million guaranteed prize pool means that the GG WSOP Online main event will be the largest online poker tournament prize pool ever, exceeding the $21.78 million that was paid out for the 2018 partypoker MILLIONS.

The $25 million guarantee was staggering.

The fine print, however, left many angry.

There will be a total of 22 starting flights for the $5,000 buy-in main event - that's right. Twenty-two starting flights.

According to reports, there will be one flight every day from August 16th to August 23rd, plus an additional two starting flights running daily from August 24th to August 30th.

Daniel Negreanu, who is a sponsored GGPoker player, clarified some of the details for this event earlier today.

Negreanu said that the total number of starting flights hasn't been set as of yet, despite the screenshot that was being circulated online.

Negreanu DID say, however, that players would be limited to play just three starting flights.

While this certainly is an improvement over a professional player being able to play up to 22 starting flights, there are still many who feel that the event should be one big freezeout, similar to the "live" WSOP main event.

After all, a professional poker player is going to have a significant edge on the field if they are able to enter up to three flights.

An amateur player who qualifies via a satellite, for instance, is almost certainly not going to enter another flight if they bust.

The professional player with a large bankroll, on the other hand, will be able to enter another flight if they bust early, which gives them an edge over the field.
