The largest poker room in the world is celebrating a 15 year anniversary of their trademark tournament.Every once in a while, Pokerstars reminds people that they are still the 800 pound gorilla of the online poker industry.

On Sunday, the 15th Anniversary of the Sunday Million is set to take place on Pokerstars.

The tournament will feature an "old school" buy-in of $215, and late registration will stretch all the way until Day 2 of the event on Monday, March 22nd.

The tournament will have a guaranteed prize pool of $12.5 million, with the two top finishers being guaranteed at least a million dollars each.

Given the current strength of the online poker industry, I have no doubt that the $12.5 million guarantee will be comfortably surpassed.

The first ever "Sunday Million" took place on March 5th, 2006.

At the time, Pokerstars was the second largest online poker room in the world (behind Party Poker), though things would soon change thanks to the passing of the UIGEA into law in the United States. This resulted in Party Poker pulling out of the United States, and Pokerstars would take over the crown of largest online poker room in the world and never give it back.

The first ever "Sunday Million" drew a total of 5,893 entrants, creating a total prize pool of $1,178,600.

The tournament was won by "aaaaaaaa", who ended up taking home a little less than $174,000.

The first few editions of the "Sunday Million" weren't called the "Sunday Million" - it wouldn't be until June 25th, 2006, when Pokerstars would officially give their big weekly Sunday tournament that moniker.
