A new record for the largest live prize pool is about to be broken. The eyes of the poker world are currently on Las Vegas and the World Series of Poker right now, so what better time to announce the largest guaranteed prize pool in the history of live poker?

The World Poker Tour revealed earlier this week that the WPT World Championship - hosted by the Wynn in Las Vegas and set to run from December 12th to 20th - will feature the largest guaranteed prize pool in the history of live poker.

The event, which will have a buyin of $10,400, will have a total guaranteed prize pool of $15 million.

The guarantee is an ambitious one, as this means that the tournament will need at least 1,500 total entrants to avoid an overlay.

There will be three Day 1 flights, however, and players can choose to enter all three flights if they want.

Live poker is clearly back on the upswing after a couple of rough years due to COVID-19.

With travel restrictions having been largely lifted across the globe, the World Series of Poker has been enjoying some very strong numbers so far, and the World Poker Tour is clearly counting on this trend continuing.

In addition, legal online poker is slowly growing across the United States, and this is also helping to increase live turnouts.

The World Poker Tour also announced a couple of other events for the festival that should prove to be popular with players, including the "WPT Prime Championship" ($1,100 buy-in, $2 million guaranteed prize pool) and the "Wynn Mystery Bounty" event, which will have a $2 million guarantee and one "Mystery Bounty" worth $100,000.
