World Series of Poker Europe - WSOP - Logo - WSOPEDay 1B of the WSOPE main event took place on Sunday, with Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu surging to the top of the leaderboard after accumulating a stack of just over 154k. Other well-known names near the top of the leaderboard after Day 1B included David "Raptor" Benefield, Marco Traniello, Yuval Bronshtein and Ronald de Wolfe. According to recent blog postings, Negreanu is feeling extremely confident about his current level of play, and should be a contender as we head deeper into the tournament.

Justin "BoostedJ" Smith crushed Day 1A of the event, amassing a stack of almost 160k by the end of the day. This was a full 60k more than his closest competitor, Erik "Erik123" Sagstrom, who finished Day 1A at around 99k. Other notable names that did well on Day 1A included Andy Bloch, Brandon Adams, Mike Matusow and Scott Fischman.

The tournament will pick up on Monday afternoon as the two fields combine into one. There are reported to be around 180 players left in the tournament.

Defending WSOPE main event champion, Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad, was eliminated on Day 1B of the event. Other notable online poker names eliminated on Day 1B included: Josh "JJProdigy" Field, Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi and Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies.

The main event this year drew a total of 362 participants, which is the exact same number as 2007. The total prizepool will be 3.62 million pounds, with the first place finisher receiving 869k pounds. The top 36 players will get paid, with the 36th place finisher receiving 25,340 pounds.
