The money was flowing at the 2014 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge, as a total of 39 players anted up $100,000 to take part in the tournament.
On top of that, re-entries were allowed, and some players took full advantage. Daniel Negreanu bought in to the tournament five times, while Isaac Haxton bought in six times. Here is what Daniel Negreanu had to say about it on Twitter:
"I did it! Found a way to show a profit after spending $500k in rebuys. Guaranteed $550k now ha. #AussieMillions100K 6 players left"
There were a total of 37 re-entries in the event, which helped to pump up the prize pool to nearly $7.5 million AUD.
Here is how the event ended up finishing out:
1. Yevgeniy Timoshenko, $2,000,000
2. Mike McDonald, $1,500,000
3. Erik Seidel, $1,076,000
4. Doug Polk, $860,000
5. Patrik Antonius, $700,000
6. Daniel Negreanu, $550,000
7. David Steicke, $450,000
8. Martin Jacobson, $350,000
The final hand of the tournament came when Timoshenko and McDonald got their stacks into the middle pre-flop. Timoshenko turned over Kd-Qs, while McDonald had 10h-7h. The board ran out 6s-5c-2d-8d-3h - neither player improved their hand, and Timoshenko walked away with the victory and the $2 million.
The $100,000 Challenge attracted many of the biggest players in the world, including Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari.
Many of these players will be back at it at the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge, which gets underway in just a couple of hours.
