Hellmuth, Matusow Advance to Quarterfinals

Heads-up Poker Championship - Logo with blue backgroundThe quarterfinals of the 2013 National Heads-Up Poker Championship have now been set after two rounds of play on Friday.

Players who made the "Round of 32" on Friday afternoon would need to win one more match to make the money. Here are the tournament payouts:

1st - $750,000
2nd - $300,000
3rd-4th - $100,000
5th-8th - $50,000
9th-16th - $25,000

Some of the more notable "Round of 32" matches included Viktor "Isildur1" Blom vs Mike Matusow and Tom Dwan vs Doyle Brunson. Dwan, Matusow and Ivey all won their second round matches, which set up these pairings in the "Round of 16":

Vanessa Rousso vs Scott Seiver
Barry Greenstein vs Mike Matusow
John Hennigan vs Phil Ivey

Joseph Cheong vs Eugene Katchalov
Phil Hellmuth vs David "Doc" Sands

Dan Smith vs Joe Serock

The "Round of 16" was highlighted by Phil Hellmuth's dramatic win over David Sands.

Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Phil Ivey both dropped their "Round of 16" matches, which left these quarterfinal match-ups:

Mike Matusow vs John Hennigan
Phil Hellmuth vs Eugene Katchalov
Joe Serock vs Brian Hastings

Phil Hellmuth is brimming with confidence right now, as he is coming off of the best year of his professional career. In addition, Hellmuth has previously won the NHUPC.

Scott Seiver vs Daniel Cates will be an intriguing quarterfinal match, as Seiver and Cates are two of the top young players in the world today.
