The 10th anniversary of Pokerstars Sunday Million - $10M guaranteeThe 10th anniversary of the "Sunday Million" tournament is currently taking place on Pokerstars.

The "Sunday Million", which is, by far, the largest weekly online poker tournament, was first run on March 6th, 2006. The first running of the event attracted a total of 5,893 players and was won by "aaaaaa", who took home $173,844 for his efforts.

In March of 2006, Pokerstars was the second largest online poker room in the world, as they trailed PartyPoker at the time. A few months later and UIGEA (the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006) became a reality, which led to the withdrawal of PartyPoker from the US market. This instantly made Pokerstars the top online poker room in the world, and the "Sunday Million" exploded in popularity as a result.

To illustrate just how far Pokerstars and the "Sunday Million" have come, today's "Sunday Million" is expected to attract close to 50,000 total entries (players are allowed up to three re-entries).

Pokerstars is guaranteeing a total of $10 million for this week's "Sunday Million", with the eventual winner being guaranteed a minimum payout of $1 million. As of this moment, the top 6,399 finishers will receive some sort of a payout, with a min-cash currently being worth $310.00.

There was some thought that this tournament might have an overlay, though there are currently 43,500 entries with nearly 90 minutes of late registration time remaining. It appears as though the tournament will hit 50,000 entries, which would be quite a feat for a tournament with a buy-in of $215.
