-- National Heads-up logo - black background --Day 2 of the 2010 National Heads-Up Poker Championship has now drawn to a close.

There were two elimination matches on Saturday, meaning that the field of 32 was narrowed down to just 8 players.

Here are the four quarterfinal matchups:

Erik Seidel vs Peter Eastgate
Scotty Nguyen vs Jason Mercier

Dennis Phillips vs Doyle Brunson
Jerry Yang vs Annie Duke

The quarterfinal matchups will get under way at 11 am (local time) on Sunday. The semifinals will take place at 4:45 pm, and the best of three championship match will take place at 7 pm.

Doyle Brunson, who has not had much success in this event in the past, has made it through to the quarterfinals for the first time.

Some of the players who advanced through to Day 2 but lost in the second round included:

Phil Ivey, Erick Lindgren, Joe Hachem, Sam Farha

Some of the players who lost in round three included:

Jamie Gold, Chris Moneymaker, Gabe Kaplan, Phil Laak, Annette Obrestad, Barry Greenstein

Pokerstars has three players in the "elite eight" (Eastgate, Mercier and Phillips), while Full Tilt Poker has just two (Erik Seidel and Jerry Yang, who is still listed as a "friend of Full Tilt Poker").

Former winners of this event did not fare very well at all this year. Chris Ferguson was eliminated in the second round by Dennis Phillips, Phil Hellmuth was eliminated in the second round by Annette Obrestad, Paul Wasicka was eliminated in the third round by Annie Duke, Ted Forrest was eliminated in the first round by Stephen Quinn and Huck Seed was eliminated in the first round by Erick Seidel. There won't be any repeat winners this year.

There are a number of former WSOP main event champions in the "Elite Eight", as Doyle Brunson, Jerry Yang, Peter Eastgate and Scotty Nguyen have all won poker's biggest tournament.

We'll have another update tomorrow night when the tournament comes to a close.
