Definition of PCA
The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) is a yearly high-profile televised Texas Hold 'em poker tournament with a prize pool in the millions at the Atlantis Casino and Resort on Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

That first year, won by Gus Hansen, the top prize was "just" a hair under a half-million. The following year, the European Poker Tour (EPT) co-sponsored the event, John Gale won, and the top prize had nearly doubled.
Main Event Winners:
2004 - Gus Hansen, Denmark, $455,780
2005 - John Gale, England, $890,600
2006 - Steve Paul-Ambrose, Canada, $1,388,600
2007 - Ryan Daut, United States, $1,535,255
2008 - Bertrand Grospellier, France, $2,000,000
2009 - Poorya Nazari, Canada, $3,000,000
2010 - Harrison Gimbel, United States, $2,200,000
2011 - Galen Hall, United States, $2,300,000
The 2012 main event table will air on ESPN2, and PokerStars expects the top prize to exceed last year's amount. The buy-in for the event is $10,300, and there is already an estimated total prize pool well in excess of $20 million.
Although the buy-in is the most direct way, there are several other ways to claim a seat at the event. PokerStars' clients can even use their Frequent Player Points (FPP) in lieu of actual dollars to buy a whole event package.
PokerStars is also giving away more than a hundred packages as prizes. There are numerous promotions for the PCA, and there is an entire online satellite system. Players can buy in to some satellites for as little as $0.10.
These prize packages are worth more than $15,000 because they include the main event buy-in, travel, hotel accommodations, expenses and a wide array of other perks. A passport is all that the winning player needs.
The main event typically takes place in January. The 2012 main event is January 5-14.
