Definition of Behind
What does the term "behind" mean in the world of poker? What is the definition of the term "behind"?
In poker, being "behind" in a hand means that you don't have the best odds to win the hand.
For instance - let's say that you decide to push all-in pre-flop holding pocket Kings from early position. Action folds around to the player on the button, who sticks their stack into the middle instantly. The SB and BB both fold.
The button turns over pocket Aces, meaning that you are "behind" in the hand.
You are obviously "behind" in this hand, meaning that you will need to get fortunate to win the pot. In this case, you'd be about a 20% favourite to win the hand, meaning that you'd need to spike a King or get some sort of 4-flush or straight.
If a King came on the flop, your opponent would now be "behind" in the hand. The odds to win a hand can obviously change greatly throughout the course of a hand.
